Why can't Windows connect to a custom network name?

We just bought the SBG8300 modem. I changed the network name from the factory setting of SBGnnnnnn to a custom network name and pw which is easier to remember and type in. My Mac connected to it with no problem, but the two PCs in the house always rejected the password. We finally had to select the secondary (guest) network with the unchanged network name and password.   Why can’t the Windows computers connect to our custom-named network?

Are you talking custom ssid?
If so, make sure there isn’t any special characters or spaces in the ssid/password.

I’ve seen some devices have issues with those
