how do I assign 2.4g to one device and 5g to another

You can disable band steering.

That’ll let you setup different ssid’s for each band if you prefer.

    Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
