Xfinity technicans said today we should update are modem because its 8 years old.
Is there any truth in this information, and if it’s true which one should I purchase.

If you are looking for the unit with the same specification which svg2482ac device has that is modem/router combo with voice facility, then you need to get the same modem which will be compatible with Xfinity.
