I would like to block a desktop computer in my home from accessing the internet. I go to Parental controls to block a specific device, but even though the name of the computer shows, the MAC address is different from what it should be. I click on the computer anyway, block it from access, but it still has access. In fact, I tried blocking a different desktop computer, with the correct name and MAC address showing under parental controls, and it wasn’t blocked either. This seems like it should be a very easy thing to do. What could be going wrong?
For mismatch MAC Address, make sure you have one connection to the SVG2482AC and the random mac address setting is set to on or off on the desktop. For parental control settings, you can select form the list of client or enter PC manually. Try entering the pc information manually and make sure the parental control is enabled. please follow the steps mentioned on the below article to block device.
I tried entering the mac address manually, it didn’t work. I tried blocking other computers on the network as well, they all were allowed access. I even marked every computer on the network as “not trusted” and they were allowed on.
On a different note, I even tried block key search terms, and did a search using them, and they were allowed. So basically, every parental control is simply not working. Any thoughts?
Since you are unable to enable the parental control on SVG2482-AC, let me help you with the link to setup the parental control.
I know I am using the parental controls correctly. I’ve read every guide available. Could by ISP (Xfinity) be preventing the parental controls from working? This is very frustrating.
I suggest you to power cycle the modem once and try to enable the parental control setup again.
If the problem persists after power cycle and if your device is in warranty, you can reach out www.arris.com/consumersupport for further assistance.
Thanks, but I tried powering it down, it didn't make a difference. And, unfortunately, it's about 4.5 years old so it's out of warranty.
Finally you can give a try with factory reset the modem, If you are performing factory reset all the customized settings will be changed to default settings.
Find the link below for your reference to perform factory reset:

Once all the led light turns solid, please follow the steps to set it again.

I am having the same problem. I have power cycled the modem as well as factory reset it. After the reset i went into Parental controls and blocked all devices other than the computer i am on and it is still allowing all devices access to the internet.
I have messed with just about every setting and nothing seems to do a thing when it comes to parental controls. This router is a few years old.

Since you have mentioned that parental control setup is not enabled on your computer, I suggest you to restart your computer and modem, then try to set it again.
Let me share you the link for your reference to enable the parental control setup :
