Arris G36 Wifi Constantly Goes Down

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have the Arris G36 and the wifi connection constantly drops all day. When wired in, I have zero issues. Comcast also came out and tested signal strength and it’s within the range of the speeds I purchase (gigabit internet).

What can I do to get consistent WiFi out of this VERY expensive modem/router combo? It is super frustrating to have my work calls go in and out all day long.

As you mentioned, the Wi-Fi connection dropping indicates that the G36 might be experiencing congestion and high interference. Make sure that the G36 is placed in an open area and in an higher altitude. Common causes of Wi-Fi interference include walls, floors, and ceilings that can weaken the signal, as well as other devices like cordless phones, microwaves, and Bluetooth devices.

Could you please confirm if it is just the internet connection dropping, or if the Wi-Fi network names are disappearing as well?

More importantly, does the connection drop occur on the 2.4GHz network, the 5GHz network, or both?

Does this issue happen on any particular device or all devices connected to the Wi-Fi?

It happens on 5GHz (2.4 GHz is too slow bandwidth so we don’t use it). It’s on my laptop and cell phone equally. I’m next to the router with direct line of site; there are no barriers between the computer and the router.

Can you check if the G36 modem can be directly connected to a computer using an Ethernet cable to see if the internet connection drops?

If the issue is only with the Wi-Fi, we suggest changing the Wi-Fi channels. For guidance on how to change the Wi-Fi channels, please refer to the link below.

There is no dropoff when hardwired on ethernet. When I try to follow the changing the channel tutorial, and run the WiFi Spectrum analyzer, I don’t see anything appear on the 5G (I only see logs display on the 2.4GHz option) after I run the scan.
