SBG7580-AC - slow speed and not compatible with ISP

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have cox internet service, the modem I have has been working great. Recently cox sent me information telling me it was out dated. I had 1GB service for years. Cox has upgraded to 2GB service and now my modem barley get to 100gb downloads. My streaming services will quit working. Cox tells me I need new modem to fix issue. I am only paying for 500GB service and barley use 300 GB per month.

Could you let me know the current LED light status on the modem?

Are the Wi-Fi networks showing up on your devices?

Please note that the SBG7580-AC is not compatible with speeds up to 2 Gbps. I recommend contacting your service provider to downgrade your speed plan to around 300–400 Mbps for optimal performance.

I have 500mb service and was only getting 80 to 90mb. I did a complete power down and reset and it is now back to 500mb downloads. Is it still required to change out modem if I only need 500mb downloads.

Since you're getting good speeds after resetting the modem, I recommend monitoring the performance for now.

If the issue persists, try changing the Wi-Fi channels as a next step.

To do this:

  1. Open a web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.

  2. Log in using your credentials.

  3. Go to Basic Setup > select Wireless 2.4 GHz and change the Wi-Fi channel to 1, 6, or 11.

  4. Do the same for 5 GHz, with suggested channels being 36, 48, 153, or 161.
