Hi,

My fairly new (still under warranty) SB8200 won’t work. When I apply power the power light turns on solid green for about 10sec then the upstream and downstream lights illuminate for <1sec then all three lights turn off for about 2-3sec. Then the green power light comes on and the process starts again. At no point (even if I leave it connected to power etc) does the blue connection search light start finding a signal. The modem never establishes a connection and otherwise doesn’t work.

I tried to reset it (10 sec pushing the button) and that doesn’t bring it back to life. While I have the reset button depressed the lights don’t flash but they go right back to the cycle described above after releasing the reset button.

does this mean the modem is dead and needs to be replaced?

thanks,

Kyle

To determine the modem's state, start by checking its IP address and verifying if the modem's interface page is accessible. These steps will help conclude the modem's operational status.

Based on your description, it seems the modem is not booting properly. To verify this, please try using a different power adapter and then a different power outlet to see if the modem boots correctly.

Disconnect the coaxial cable from the modem and then Connect the modem directly to a computer using an Ethernet cable.

To check the Ethernet port status, you can connect the modem directly to a computer and check the IP address without the coaxial cable connected.

To check the IP address on a Windows computer, please follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows button + the letter R on your keyboard to open the "Run" command box.
  2. In the box, type "CMD" and press Enter.
  3. A black screen will appear. Type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
  4. Under the category 'Ethernet adapter Ethernet,' you’ll find the IPv4 address.

To check the IP address on a Mac:

  1. Click on the Apple menu.
  2. Then, select System Preferences or System Settings.
  3. Navigate to Networks and click on the Ethernet option to view the IP address.
  4. If you're using an adapter, you’ll see an option for USB under Networks.

If the IP address starts with 169.254.., or if the media state shows 'disconnected' or the category is blank, there could be an issue with the port itself.

If the IP address starts with 192.168.100.**, open a browser and type http://192.168.100.1 in the search box. This should take you to a login page, indicating that the modem is operational.
