Question

My surfboard 8200 keeps re-setting for no reason

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

I had an older model SB 8200 , and it worked perfectly for a year, then started to constantly reboot at random.

I purchased a brand new SB 8200 v3 , installed it, it works great, except that it randomly reboots too! It just resets, which drops the internet, and then boots back up and the internet comes again. This is problematic for someone working from home who loses link at random, even though it reboots pretty quickly.

Why does my SB 8200 just re-set for no reason. It is brand new!

To add, I hve Comcast Xfinity so the 8200 is compatible and I even had the comcast guy activate it.

It appears that both your old modem and the new one are experiencing reboots. This suggests that the issue may be related to the signal distribution from your internet service provider, as it's unlikely that two different modems would have the same problem unless the source is upstream.

Could you please confirm your subscribed internet speed plan?

We recommend checking the cable signal levels within the cable modem. If the signal levels are out of the acceptable range, they can lead to the kind of connectivity issues you're experiencing.

When the signal levels are within the recommended range, your modem can maintain a stable, high-quality connection to the internet

Please refer to the link below for instructions on how to check your cable signal levels:

If you find that the signal levels are not within the recommended range, we suggest contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to have them reviewed and adjusted as needed.

Thank you so much for responding. My company is Xfinity Comcast. They helped me activate the 8200 Modem.

My Plan with Com cast is

Fast Plan

Download speeds: up to 600 Mbps

Upload speeds: up to 150 Mbps

I performed the checks and my Downstream power is between 6-9 but once jumped to 15, which seems to be the upper range.

My downstream Bonded channel is QAM256, except one spot it said OFDM PLC. the OFDM PLC coincided with the higher 14 power.

In general, the channel is QAM256. and the power > 0 so the SNR > 30 and it is. It is 40.

So all these thngs seem to be in line? Again, the resets are 3-4 times a day. If I do contact my ISP, I wouldn’t know what to tell them

The troubleshooting. numbers all look good, but your modem is still resetting numerous times a day.

Could you please recheck the upstream power levels and confirm whether they fall within the acceptable range?

All the upstream are exactly 45. I had the comcast XFinity tech come out and he replaced all the lines and connections, and it seems to be fixed now
