Question

Surfboard Fing

Forum|alt.badge.img

Just activated a new Surfboard S33.  Got the notice to do a one-time network scan using Fing.  Now I’m stuck in the spinning little circles of death as it is supposedly scanning.  How do I stop this?  Nothing else works on the app.  And it was the only option on the app...kind of a dollop to use Bing...whatever that is?

The Fing scan feature is only available on the SURFboard Central app paired with a cable modem.  Fing performs a one-time network scan of your home network and provides details of the online devices such as the device name, brand, model, IP, and MAC address.  For full details of the network and advanced tools, you may sign up for a download link of the Fing Desktop to install on your PC free of charge.

The S33 is just a cable modem and does not have built-in Wi-Fi features. You will need a router to connect it for Wi-Fi support.

For this cable modem, you can use the app to activate it with your service provider if they offer a self-activation method and also register the product using the app. However, apart from that, there are no features or customizations available for this model, as it is merely a plug-and-play device.

Thanks for the response.  I self activated the new modem, relatively easy jumping hoops between Arris and Xfinity, but got it up and sending electrons thru the electronic ether much easier than trying to deal with Comcast over the phone!  The issue is the Surfboard app.  Its only options are Home, Network, and User Guide...and I’m locked into Surfboard/fing “one time scan” ...can’t close that option, just a “Try again” button.  Probably not necessary even to keep the app since the modems working, but it would be nice to be able to access the User Guide.

You can access the user guide on the SURFboard Central app. For your reference, please check the following link for instructions on how to do that:
