Just swapped out my old Netgear C7000v2 to a new Arris G34.  I have an Optimum 1,000 mbps line (Sadly not fiber optic) that supports both DOCSIS 3.1 and wifi 6.  On setup my new Modem light sequence is amber at first, then when trying to connect to the ISP it is flashing blue which means it is looked for a DOCSIS 3.1 connection.  It apparently fails to connect so then starts a flashing green light and connects to DOCSIS 3.0  Any ideas on how to get it to connect to DOCSIS 3.1  I’ve tried both resetting and rebooting.

got a screen snip of the cable connections page and event logs?

Nothing to change in the settings but you can check your cable connection info.

You might also check with optimum if you have docsis 3.1 in your area. Its getting more rare but there’s still the occasional area that isn’t covered.

Thanks for the response, had already done both.  Both Optimum and Arris support were handled in I do believe INDIA and they know nothing bout nothing.  I get much better wifi speed with the new G34 which I expected, but ethernet connected download and upload speeds are the same I was getting with my old Netgear C7000v2 which is about 750 mbps down and a constant 54 up.  Can’t complain actually, but would like to see what DOCSIS 3.1 is like as my old Netgear was DOCSIS 3.0.

thats are about the max speeds you can expect from docsis 3.0 but 3.1 has more capability.

But optimum was horrible at upgrading their service. So tough to know if you’re an an area that might still be 3.0. You can check the cable connections page and see if it tries.

Or even check with a neighbor if theirs connects at 3.1 since optimum isn’t great at tell you when you contact them. Or try to contact level 2 when you call them.

Again I appreciate your response, you are definitely up on your game.  I’ve just messaged Optimum about this issue,  I know my G34 tries to connect to 3.1 first because the flashing connection light tries to connect but is unable to do so, so it goes to flashing green until it connects to 3.0  Like I said, I’m good with the wifi speed as my new G34 gives me wifi speed of up to 600 mbps down and a steady 54 mbps up.  I just wanted it to connect to 3.1 to see the difference. I’ll exhaust all leads, had a service tech from Optimum out Saturday and he was outstanding and repaired a bad cable outside on my service line, I asked him and he didn’t know about the DOCSIS connection.  Optimum support is mad at my now because I suggested they learn English, then read their manual, then message me the answer.  I HATE dealing with ME imports on any type of support.

Just got the answer, in my area Optimum does NOT have DOCSIS 3.1 available yet.  You, my man, are QUITE right on this.  Thanks!

Glad you got that straightened. Sad that you have more capability with that device to use but because optimum is cheap/lazy/typical ISP, its not happening.

Well, I got a lifetime price on the 1,000 mbps line for a total of $53,51 per month FOR LIFE and I just checked my wifi internet.  Got 824 mbps down and 54 up, I’m not complaining!

I wouldn’t complain about that price/speeds either. Nice work!
