I got a new G36 cable modem to replace another.  Connected to laptops fine, can’t connect to HP Envy 4500.  Setup wizard cannot connect.  Network test results say I need to add the MAC address of the printer to the list of permitted devices.  How do I do that?

To connect the printer you can try setting the security mode option on the modem GUI and then connect to the modem 2.4 network or also you can try connecting using WPS option. please follow the steps mentioned on the below article to connect the printer to the network.

Login to the modem GUI  and select Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi > Networks>  Edit Home 2.4 GHz
Select security mode drop down arrow > WPAWPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES) > save

To setup WPS option please follow the steps below
