I have a SB6183 cable modem that I’ve been using with a NETGEAR R6300v2 router that’s worked great until a bad thunderstorm came through and did something to my internet/wifi. The technician said I need a new router. I connected a NETGEAR AX1600 WiFi 6 Router and it didn’t seem to fix the issue. Should it? Any router recommendations that would be compatible with a SB6183?

We recommend isolating the issue to determine if the SB6183 modem provides an internet connection. To do this, turn off the modem, connect a computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable, then turn the modem back on and wait for it to boot up. Finally, check if the internet connection is established. If there is no connection please follow the below steps.
To check the Ethernet port status, you can connect the modem directly to a computer and check the IP address without the coaxial cable connected.
To check the IP address on a Windows computer, please follow these steps:
- Press the Windows button + the letter R on your keyboard to open the "Run" command box.
- In the box, type "CMD" and press Enter.
- A black screen will appear. Type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
- Under the category 'Ethernet adapter Ethernet,' you’ll find the IPv4 address.
To check the IP address on a Mac:
- Click on the Apple menu.
- Then, select System Preferences or System Settings.
- Navigate to Networks and click on the Ethernet option to view the IP address.
- If you're using an adapter, you’ll see an option for USB under Networks.
If the IP address starts with 169.254.., or if the media state shows 'disconnected' or the category is blank, there could be an issue with the port itself.
