My S33 has been making an annoying high pitched sound for about a month.  The sound got significantly worse today and it stopped working. Plugged in my old sbg6580 and contacted my ISP and now I have Internet back. Arris expects me to have a cpu with an Ethernet port but not many laptops come with Ethernet ports anymore. Nether my laptop not my finances laptop have Ethernet ports. Arris says if I can't connect a computer to it there nothing they can do for me. Modem is still under warranty until Sept.

why do they need to hardwire into it?

If its not working (led’s off), there isn’t anything to check

The leds aren't off. But it never lights up blue. Just get an amber light for several seconds followed by a very light blue or white light. Not the normal deeper blue light. The high pitched sound is unbearable and drives the dogs crazy. Won't connect.

Please reach out to www.arris.com/consumersupport for warranty claim.

That's what I did. But they expect me to find a computer that I can connect to the modem via Ethernet cable. We don't own any computers that have an Ethernet port. Very few computers even have those ports anymore, especially our dells 🙄. So I would have to source a USB c adaptor that has an Ethernet port.

Alternatively, using a converter to connect the modem directly to your computer would help us in providing you with a proper solution.

I assume you mean something like this  https://www.anker.com/products/a8313?search_category=autofill&q=ethernet

Yes , that is an ethernet adaptor and using that you can connect the modem to your computer.
