I presently have the SB8200 modem, since 2018. I have Xfinity, and my current plan’s level of service is Ultrafast including download speeds up to 1000 Mbps and upload speeds up to 20 Mbps. My download speed averages above 920 Mbps. Is there any benefit to upgrading to the S33 modem if I don’t upgrade my level of service to 2000 Mbps? Upgrading to this speed would cost an additional $25, so would I see download speeds of 2000 Mbps if I upgraded?
If you do NOT intend to upgrade your 1Gb Xfinity plan, I see no reason to upgrade your modem.
If you do upgrade both your Xfinity plan AND to the S33 modem, then I see no reason why you would not get close to 2Gb download speeds.
Be aware that although there are two ports on the S33, only one of them is rated at 2.5 Gb. The other port is a 1Gb. So if you wanted to connect more than one machine at the higher speed, you would also need an appropriately spec’d. Hope this helps.
...appropriately spec’d switch.
Thank you for that answer, sjtnet. I understand what you are saying about the plans.
I’ve also been monitoring the Xfinity Community forum regarding the major upgrade to DOCSIS 4 and the XB8 gateway, thus providing up to 8GB download speeds. It’s anybody’s guess as to when this will come to the D.C. area. Does Arris plan to have a modem/router that Xfinity customers can purchase—rather than having to rent the XB8 gateway?
If you are upgrading the modem from SB8200 to S33, yes you can go with maximum of 2.5Gbps download speed since there is a separate 2.5g port on S33.
If you’re on xfinity, go with the S34. It has the increased next gen upload speeds.
I looked at the link you provided, plemans. The S33 is rated 0.01GB, just slightly faster than the S34. You must have another metric in mind, and I can’t tell based on the information on that page. Can you clarify your recommendation…thanks.
Look at the upload speed. The next gen for xfinity increases the upload speed. If you’re area has next gen (it should get it at some point), its worth the money for the increased upload.
Thank you plemans. I didn’t look closely at your original answer--my mistake.
I am now trying to access the WEB MANAGER at 192.168.100.1, but having no luck. I looked at the FAQ for “how is the web manager used for the s33/34 cable modem?”, and first did the recommended way to disconnect the router and connect computer ethernet RJ45 directly to the 2.5 Gb port. That didn’t work, so I reconnected computer RJ45 back to router. This also doesn’t work. I am now going to try connecting the computer RJ45 to the 1 Gb port on the modem. I doubt this will work, but will let all know if it does. Meanwhile, if you have a solution for me, I’ll gladly try it...
Just completed the factory reset, then attempted to get Web Manager in all the ways described in the previous post. Still no access...
If you tried all the possible troubleshooting steps, I would suggest visiting www.arris.com/consumersupport for further assistance.
Thank you for that, Moderator. I will attempt to resolve a few more times on my own before contacting Support.
