I see that others are also getting the 403 forbidden message when trying to connect to the cable modem interface.  My modem is the SB 6190.  I tried EVERY suggestion listed in this forum, and chatted twice with Arris tech and we went thru all steps, no go.

I asked both Arris tech’s do I actually NEED to connect to the interface, and if so why?  Security reasons? Both tech’s told me to rest assured that there are NO security issues if the interface can’t be reached and UN / PW can’t be changed.  Is this true?  Anyone know if this is true?  If it’s true, why is there a need at all to connect to the interface?

Really a terrible feeling to be locked out of the interface and not knowing if I’m now vulnerable to being hacked.  I’m going to get a new cable modem.  NOT and Arris.

The only benefit with that modem to logging in is to check the upstream/downstream values and the event log. if everything is working as it should and you get the speeds you should, nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the reply and the input.  I guess I’m not really knowledgeable about what it takes to have a secure computer and files that can’t be hacked.  I thought a cable modem was part of securing one’s computer from the internet and hackers.  I do know that I do not open any suspicious files, emails, links, etc.

there isn’t much to hack on a modem. its more on the router side versus the modem side. Modems are pretty locked down from the ISP.

Thanks again for that info.  My router is a Linksys EA 7400.  Might be a good time to change the password.
