I need to replace the ac adapter for the sbg 8300, but the materials that came with the modem/router don’t say what the device’s rated voltage and current are. Seems like the ac adapter would need to be 12 volts and 2 amps, but I used an ac adapter with those specs with this device and that adapter got fried and stopped working. Is there more information I need to select the right adapter?

Can someone please confirm the ac adapter and/or voltage and current specs for the sbg8300 so I can make sure to order the correct replacement? Looks like Arris doesn’t offer ac adapters, just uses third-party ones. I want to make sure it’s compatible and pricing and info for ac adapters is all over the place and inconsistent. Please help!

Specs for the SBG8300 power supply is 12vDC, 3.0A, and POS(+) pin type.

Thank you Netopia!

I’m confused, since the AC adapter that originally came with the Arris8300 said Output 12V, 2A (but again, a similar adapter with those specs shorted out and stopped working). It sounds like I should be looking for an adapter that is 3A though, so that it can handle more current, just in case?

Those are the specs of the power supply I used with SBG8300.  You can try with 3A or higher.  The router would draw power as needed.
