Playstation 5 LAGS with new Arris Modem/Router Combo

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

I have a 1 Gigabit Internet service program with Comcast/XFinity and recently purchased and set up a new Arris Modem/Router Combo that Comcast/XFinity recommends for my service. But now my Playstation 5 LAGS terribly to the point that we no longer play games on it. I bought this new unit to IMPROVE WIFI performance, not degrade it….and understand that the Playstation 5 is only 2 rooms away from the Arris Modem/Router and on the same floor. So distance is not an issue. What settings can I change in the SURFBOARD APP (or other) to improve my situation?

Arris G36 (Modem/Router Combo) - Purchased at Amazon 3/2026

Could you please let us know if this issue is occurring only on your PlayStation or on other devices as well? Additionally, is the problem happening on the 2.4 GHz network, the 5 GHz network, or both?

If the issue is specific to the PlayStation, we recommend enabling port forwarding to help prevent any interference.

You can follow the instructions provided in the link below to set up port forwarding:

The issue is “major” with the Playstation...to the point that games cannot be played. Other devices show show signs of weaker signals, like buffering, but not as “major” as with the Playstation. So even TV streaming is now dealing with some buffering that was not happening with the old modem and router. I tried following the instructions provided above  to enable port forwarding….but was unable to as I did not have all required info. I spent a few hundred dollars for this new Modem/Router to improve my internet connections and signals...and it has only been worse to date, worse than when I had my under-powered modem and router.

I apologize for the inconvenience, as you're experiencing intermittent issues across all your devices.

Could you please confirm whether the issue occurs on a wired connection, a wireless connection, or both?

Regarding the port forwarding setup, I recommend obtaining the specific port numbers and IP address required from the device manufacturer (PlayStation).

  1. All re: wireless/wifi connections.
  2. can you tell me HOW to get the specific port numbers and IP address for the PlayStation?

Forum|alt.badge.img+42

You can get the port numbers from PlayStation’s manufacturer.

The IP address you can locate on the modem’s interface page (192.168.0.1) under connected devices.

But again, HOW do I contact the manufacturer to get the PlayStation’s port numbers? Phone number? Email Address? Chat with a Rep link?

Hope this helps. What support is trying to say is Sony should document on their support site what ports for port forwarding are used, Surfboard isn't going to Google for you. Usually just easier to search on your own once support points in the right direction:
