G36 on Xfinity

Forum|alt.badge.img

I just bought a G36 yesterday, activated it on xfinity last night and multiple times today it has lost connectivity. Sometimes, the modem shows it is connected and has DNS and IP from xfinity but none of my home network PCs or devices have internet access. Other times it shows connected (solid blue light) yet I can’t get on the internet or even access the admin page to check status even though I my PC has wi-fi connectivity and can ping the management IP of the gateway.

I’m tempted to return this and go back to my old modem.

Is this thing really a piece of garbage or am I missing something?

Rarely, this could be a provisioning issue, but to isolate the problem, we need to verify if the gateway is properly activated.

Are you able to access the internet via an Ethernet connection?

To confirm, we suggest logging into the web-based interface (GUI) of the G36 by connecting a computer to the device either through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Please note that an active internet connection is not required to access the GUI.

Once connected to the G36 network, open a web browser and enter the following address in the address bar: http://192.168.0.1

Log in to the interface, then navigate to: Gateway > Connection > WAN. Look for the WAN IPv4 address.

You do not need to provide us with the IP address. But please make sure that the IPv4 address is NOT within the range 172.16.. to 172.31... If it falls within this range, it indicates that provisioning is not completed properly. If the IP address shows as 0.0.0.0, the modem has not been activated yet.

In this scenario you might have to reactivate the gateway by reaching out to your internet service provider.

Xfinity found the issue and I have switched back to my original modem.

Thanks
