Ethernet cable to install the modem SBG8300

Is the ethernet cable required for installation and activation of model SGB8300? Is the ethernet cable needed at all after installation and activation is completed?

Not really. Only if you plan on hardwiring something into it. 

Otherwise you can have it activated by your Isp and installed through the app if you prefer.

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
