How do I update my TG862G router?

You don’t. Its a modem/router combo device so the firmware is built into the provisioning the ISP pushes to the device. 

I’d actually be looking at upgrading it and not updating it. Its a pretty slow single band router from 2014 with pretty minimal specs.

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps
