Question

G34 secondary wifi not working

Forum|alt.badge.img

I am having problems with my G34. I have it setup with the primary wifi as default name. I have the secondary wifi setup with a custom name. The guest wifi is not used. For some reason the modem will quit broadcasting on the secondary wifi. It will not even show up on the list of available networks.

If I go into the setup my setting are still there. Power cycle does not fix it. The only way to make it work again without a factory reset is to disable both the 5ghz and the 2.4ghz. Save the settings. Then go back in and enable both 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Then the modem will broadcast the ssid and work again, This happens every week to 10 days.

Any clues as to why this is happening?

Thanks

Bill

Just to clarify, does the Wi-Fi network disappear on both the primary and secondary networks, or only on the secondary network?

Also, does it disappear on a specific device, or is it happening on all devices?

Just the secondary wifi quits broadcasting. And it is not available for any device.

Disable both your primary and secondary networks, wait a few seconds, and then turn them back on. This can often fix minor connectivity issues.

This network is an additional network set up to extend or support the primary network.

Please refer this link below, where you can find the steps to disable the Wi-Fi networks,

This is what I have been doing. But there is no reason I should have to do this every week or so

Since the secondary networks drop randomly, I recommend changing the WiFi channels and monitoring performance for 24 hours. This issue could be caused by WiFi congestion.

To resolve this, use a WiFi spectrum analyzer to identify the least congested channel and manually change it in the WiFi settings by logging into the modem's GUI web portal.

So you are telling me, that network congestion will cause the router to quit broadcasting the SSID of the secondary wifi?

Not ideally, as mentioned earlier, this network is an additional network to support the primary network.

You could try changing the security mode on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks:

Open a browser and type http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar.

Log in to the web interface.

Navigate to Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi > Edit Secondary Home 2.4 GHz.

Change the security mode from WPA2/WPA2 Mixed Personal (AES) (Recommended) to WPA2-PSK (AES).

Apply the same settings for the secondary 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

After that, navigate to Troubleshooting > Restart/Restore, then select Restart Wi-Fi and Router.
