I have Astound broadband with G36 modem. Issue is happening daily … Internet shows up to provider but no internet access. Logs show an DHCPv6 provision retry issue and I have to reboot the G36 to restore connectivity. I asked for a firmware update from Astound but they said they do not have one from Arris. Is there a fix or do I need to replace the box?

Is this issue happening on the Wi-Fi connected devices are even with direct connection?

What is the LED light status on the modem front panel?

Are you able to access modem GUI or the surfboard central app?

Hey Pete, let me ask you a question. Does the modem seem excessively hot to you? It sounds like you are having a very similar issue to what I’m experiencing with my G34 right now. I was getting disconnected from the internet about every 20 minutes or so even though my modem was still connected to my ISP’s network. I was stuck in a loop of rebooting/power cycling every 20 minutes just to be able to use the internet at all. I wasn’t sure if the heat I noticed was the normal operating temperature for the modem so I decided to point a fan directly at it from about a foot away and it seems to have completely resolved the issue. Now, this isn’t an ideal solution but it’s at least stabilized my internet connection. I’m curious if you were to try this to see if it solves your issue as well. I’m starting to think that there is some kind of flaw in either the design or assembly of these units based on how many similar issues I see reported in this forum. Best of luck to you regardless though.

Yes it was happening to all devices even directly connected. Here is what seems to have resolved the issue for now (approx a week with no issues).

1. Disabled DHCP IPv6 under Connection>Local IP Network>IPV6>Uncheck Enabled to Disable.

  1. I had TP-Link Mesh S4 Deco 3x nodes in AP mode directly connected / cabled to the G36 ethernet ports. I removed that configuration and instead cabled my Main Deco to the G36 and then home run cabled my 2x other Deco nodes diredectly to the main deco unit. Still in AP mode.

At this point I am not sure if disabling the IPV6 setting on the G36 fixed it or reconfiguring the physical TPlink setup, but it seems to me more likely that the disabling of IPv6 resolved the issue. Also could be that the G36 ports do not strictly act as an ethernet switch but I am not sure about that.
