Today I called Arris Surfboard Tech Support to inquire about updates for my SBG8300. The agent’s false and totally untrue answer: “Your Internet Provider provides updates for your Surfboard modem”. Thus insinuating that I am an ignorant buffoon, which I plan to deal with later.
Question: How do I receive software updates for my modem?

The agent is correct. Most ISP’s push the firmware automatically. I am with Cox, and that’s what they do with my SB8200. They typically customize the firmware, test, and then push, both to rented and owned modems.

ARRIS develops the software update and makes it available to service providers. The service providers qualify, test, and distribute the software update to devices on their network. ARRIS has limited control or visibility on distribution by the service providers.
