Yes S33 can support up to 2.5Gbps speed but it vary for every internet service provider. The S33 includes a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port to support speeds greater than 1Gbps. since G54 is a new upgrade modem it is listed under Next Gen list but not the other model which will support 2 or ore than 2Gbps is not listed so they will update the list in future.
Xfinity has to certify it so they hold up would be on their end. Nothing arris can do
Wondering the same thing. I tried to upgrade to the X2 plan and completely lost internet connect. My S33 sat with blinking green light. I talked to a few xfinity “techs” and they told me I had to config my modem to accept the higher speed. Far as I can see there’s no configuration that needs to be done and no one at xfinity can tell me why my modem isn’t working with the X2 plan. They switched me back to the gigabit plan and told me to contact Arris.

I actually had a similar experience. I noticed the Gigabit x2 plan was available for my area. I upgraded the plan and it allowed for me to select customer owned modem. I assumed that the S33 would be able to handle it given the specs of the modem. After 3 hours of troubleshooting I discovered via Reddit that the S33 wasn't certified for their next gen speeds yet. The major disappointment was the Xfinity rep I was on the phone with didn’t catch any of this. I laid out in detail all equipment used and steps taken.
It appears the S33 has been going through some sort of testing:

Its unfortunate no roadmap is provided by Xfinity or Arris on when they expect the S33 to be compatible with Xfinity’s 10G network/Gigabit x2 Plan. There are more modems scheduled to be certified for X2 plan by 11/30/23.
The Netgear CM2500, CBR750, & CAX80 are scheduled to launch 11/30/23, pending nothing goes wrong during testing.
Maybe I will end up buying another modem...or sit here and be patient.
I'm in the same boat. Has anyone from Arris confirmed if the qualification has started? Comcast still isn't confirming what models will be qualified and is not providing any sort of roadmap. Has Arris initiated the qualification?
