I have had to call my ISP several times about not getting the speeds I am paying for. We pay for 1200 mb/s. We tested the signals and the speed is coming in about 1980 mb/s through the cable but then drops to the low 800s after going through my sb8200 modem before it even hits my router. I tried turning on LAG but didn’t seem to change anything.

The what router is connected to the modem?

What device are you testing with?


Thanks for your reply. A tech from the ISP came out and had a device for testing each line speed. We tested the line coming into the modem and it was just shy of 2 gigabits and then we tested the line from the modem to the router and it dropped into the 800 mb/s. From the router to my PC (which is plugged in via ethernet and a cat network) I was experiencing almost no loss in speed. The router is a NETGEAR Nighthawk AXE11000.


I’m not a fan of the testing with the “tech’s” device. Hardwiring in a pc/laptop is the best option to get realistic speeds. 

so test it yourself versus the tech. Also, check the website and computer you’re testing with. Some sites won’t max out gigabit. If you’re on xfinity, try their test site


Makes sense. I will test the speeds myself to verify and try multiple testers. If what I test is similar to what the tech did would you recommend trying a new modem? I wasn’t sure if there might be a firmware update to try. The GUI for the modem is pretty simple and didn't have any updating tools. thanks again!

As you are facing slow speed the best way to check is to connect the modem directly to the ethernet port of the computer/laptop and run a speedtest.net.

Let us know the LED light status of the modem.
