Question

unable to activate S34 and its very warm to the touch

Forum|alt.badge.img

I bought an Arris S34 from BandH Photo.   I have Xfinity the 400mb plan.   I hooked up the modem and it has a solid blue light.   I have no laptop or desktop to connect to it.   Only an ipad currently.   I tried activating for two hours and it will not activate either through customer support (5 agents from Egypt, I might cancel Comcast for that) or through the Xfinity website.   My old modem reactivated right away when I went back to it.   XFinity wants to charge me $100 to send out a technician who will likely tell me its the modems fault.   What should I do?

Thanks

Could you please confirm if you have a router to connect with the S34? The S34 is just a cable modem and does not include Wi-Fi capabilities, so you will need a router to connect your devices via Wi-Fi.

Also, we recommend trying a self-activation using the Xfinity app.

Yes obviously I have a router.  Like I said my internet works when I switch back to my old modem but I’m capped around 150mb/s.    I have done the self activation six or seven times without success.   I have also had five Xfinity Egyptians tell me to trust them they were the expert not the last Egyptian I talked to.   I asked.  All from an Egyptian call center likely getting paid per call they receive.  I asked to speak to an American and was transferred to Egyptian number six who asked me to give him a chance.   I did not give him a chance.  Its beyond fristrating and I should have purchased from a company with a better return policy and sent it back after Egyptian 2

First let us check the if the modem is working properly,

To check the Ethernet port status, you can connect the modem directly to a computer and check the IP address without the coaxial cable connected.

To check the IP address on a Windows computer, please follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows button + the letter R on your keyboard to open the "Run" command box.
  2. In the box, type "CMD" and press Enter.
  3. A black screen will appear. Type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
  4. Under the category 'Ethernet adapter Ethernet,' you’ll find the IPv4 address.

To check the IP address on a Mac:

  1. Click on the Apple menu.
  2. Then, select System Preferences or System Settings.
  3. Navigate to Networks and click on the Ethernet option to view the IP address.
  4. If you're using an adapter, you’ll see an option for USB under Networks.

If the IP address starts with 169.254.., or if the media state shows 'disconnected' or the category is blank, there could be an issue with the port itself.

If the IP address starts with 192.168.100.*, it indicates that the modem is functioning correctly. In this case, the issue may be related to provisioning on your internet service provider's end.

Tried calling the company twice and they had limited hours for response.  Got no response here.   Shipped it back already and going to buy something else.
