SBG8300 with TP-Link Deco XE75 AXE5400

I currently have a SBG8300  and we purchased a TP-Link Deco XE75 AXE5400 to use in our new home.  I needed to extend the range of our WiFi to reach my detached garage.

When Suddenlink/Optimum came to install the cable they told me that my Surfboard SBG8300 wouldn’t work with the TP-Link system.  
I have read somewhere that I can use the SBG8300 as a modem only, but I’m wondering if there are other issues.  
Should I just purchase a modem only?  Are there security issues with using the surfboard as a modem only?

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

It shouldn’t impact speeds at all. It just impacts the double-nat

No. You can use it as a modem only device. You can even just connect the tp-link to it with the tp-link in access point mode (disables some features on it) so you have both networks. 

It’ll work fine. Just depends on what method of setup you want. The SBG8300 as a modem only, or as primary router with the tp-link as access point mode. 

Current setup: Netgear CM3000-->Netgear RBE973S-->2.5gig tp-link switch, Xfinity 2.4gig/350mbps

Thank you for the speedy reply. Do you know… What would be the disadvantage of setting the TP Link as access point would be?  Would it not slow down speed?

What features would be disabled?

Sorry for all of the additional questions.  I’d just like to get this set up today yet also make the best decision for performance and security moving forward.
