connection/speed

I do not currently have my surfboard. Modem router combo connected because it was getting us very slow speeds, but when it was connected, it would show that it was connected from our device to the router modem, but there would be a big x going from the modem to the outside connection. We would still have internet, but it would always be slow.  How do I fix that problem? Thanks much.   Pat

Could you please provide us with your product’s model number, the name of your internet service provider, and the speed plan you have subscribed to?

It's an arris . Model number is sbg8300.  Mediacom is the internet. I gig speed. Thanks much. Hope you can help

To isolate the issue, does the slowdown occur on all Wi-Fi-connected devices or even on hardwired devices? If the issue happens both ways then we recommend checking the cable signal levels within the gateway. If the signal levels are out of the acceptable range, they can lead to the kind of connectivity issues you're experiencing.

Cable signal levels are like the volume and clarity of a conversation between your gateway and your internet provider. If the signal is too weak or too strong, it can cause communication issues—just like it would be hard to hear someone whispering from far away or shouting too loudly in your ear.

When the signal levels are within the recommended range, your gateway can maintain a stable, high-quality connection to the internet

If you find that the signal levels are not within the recommended range, we suggest contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to have them reviewed and adjusted as needed.
