Issues with Xbox Network SB8200

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have an Xbox Series X and recently decided to hard wire from my SB8200 to the Xbox.

Now it says it can’t connect to DHCP server. I have tried both ports on the modem, I even factory reset my network and still nothing.

The Wifi works fine but for some reason the hard wire from the Xbox to modem won’t.

What can I do to solve this?

To use Wi-Fi, you must have a router. Could you please let us know the make and model of your router?

If you're trying to use both ports simultaneously on the SB8200, it won't work unless the second Ethernet port is activated by your internet service provider.

If the second Ethernet port isn't activated, it won't provide an IP address, resulting in a DHCP error.

We recommend connecting the Xbox to the router, as it requires an IP address for the connection.

For more information about using the Ethernet ports on the SB8200, please refer to the link below.

I use Google Home and the router is

Google - Nest Wifi Pro 6e AXE5400

Also the Wifi works in either port of the  SB8200, so wouldn’t that mean that both ports are active?

You're absolutely right! On the SB8200, both ports are active, but they are assigned the same IP address.

You can only use one port at a time unless your ISP provides a second IP address. If you want to connect two different devices simultaneously, I recommend contacting your ISP to request an additional IP assignment.

The vast majority of ISP’s only assign a single public ip address to an account. meaning only 1 device can be connected to the modems on their service for consumer lines. The modem takes that public ip address and assigns it to the router and the router assigns private IP addresses to the devices on the network.

So while the SB8200 has 2x ethernet ports, only 1 device can be connected to it.

the extra port is mainly for wan port aggregation, those rare ISP’s that assign more than 1 ip address, or if you’re on a business class line that assigns more than 1 ip address.

You don’t say who your ISP is but the major ones (cox, spectrum, xfinity) are only 1 ip address.

So connect the xbox to the router.
