modem s34 issue not prompting to reset admin password

New S34 and I performed a factory reset but the Android app never promoted me to change password or have an option to do so.  I tried to connect to the Web console using my wifi and chrome on Android and it doesn't connect.  I currently do not have a laptop to bind via Ethernet.  What good is the app as it doesn't have any functionality when it's up and running. 

I am about to return this device and go to security solid modems by other vendors.

S34 is just a cable modem and it doesn't have any advanced configuration. This is just a plug and play device. Even on the surfboard central app you can only access the modem and to check the cable signal level so the app will not prompt to change the password.
