Question

G20 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem and WiFi

Forum|alt.badge.img

DHCP is not provisioning any clients on the LAN side.

I had the modem activated via the ISP and when I manually set a static ip on the LAN network 192.168.0.20 with gateway and DNS settings, the internet works fine.

But DHCP is not working. It does not work when I connect to the WiFi or when I plug directly into the modem with an ethernet cable. Any ideas?

I’ve already tried disabled ipv6 and still nothing. No IPV4 addresses are being handed out via DHCP

I checked to see if I can do a firmware update, but I don’t see any way to do that.

Please try changing the Ethernet cable, and consider swapping the ends to see if that helps.

To check the Ethernet port status, you can connect the modem directly to a computer and check the IP address without the coaxial cable connected.

To check the IP address on a Windows computer, please follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows button + the letter R on your keyboard to open the "Run" command box.
  2. In the box, type "CMD" and press Enter.
  3. A black screen will appear. Type "ipconfig" and press Enter.
  4. Under the category 'Ethernet adapter Ethernet,' you’ll find the IPv4 address.

To check the IP address on a Mac:

  1. Click on the Apple menu.
  2. Then, select System Preferences or System Settings.
  3. Navigate to Networks and click on the Ethernet option to view the IP address.
  4. If you're using an adapter, you’ll see an option for USB under Networks.

If the IP address starts with 169.254..., the media state shows 'disconnected', or the category is blank, there might be an issue with the port itself. In this case, try performing a factory reset by holding down the Reset button for at least 20 seconds, then release it. Afterward, check if it assigns an IP address.

Thanks for the reply.

I changed the ethernet cable but still the same issue.
I didn't think it would be the ethernet cable though, because when I manually put a static IP on my computer, I can even get out to the internet.

When I leave my computer on DHCP it gets an APIPA address of 169.254

I tried factory reset and different ports (there are only two) i still only get a 169.254 address.

Again though, if I manually put an IP, subnet, gateway, and DNS it does work correctly and I can browse the internet. It's like DHCP is not enabled on the router, even though in the GUI it is enabled.
